Undergraduate Program: The Start of an Adventure
The department offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Systems Engineering that provides a solid educational foundation for entry into the professional workforce or pursuit of graduate degrees, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Applied Science and Technology. We also offer a combined BS/MS five-year program for students wishing to achieve a Master’s degree at an accelerated pace.
Students from any SEAS major may apply to our five-year MS programs to complement their field’s technical BS with graduate studies in either Systems Engineering or Engineering Management. This can accelerate your career as you enter the workforce prepared to lead.
In addition, any GW students who want a technical concentration in Systems Engineering, Operations Research, Data Analytics for Decisions or Engineering Management without majoring in it may opt for a minor.
Masters and Certificate Programs: The Next Step
On-campus M.S. degrees: We offer Master of Science degrees in Engineering Management, Systems Engineering and Data Analytics for working professionals and aspiring professionals. The degrees provide a strong technical foundation and also give students ample opportunity to focus in any of our concentration areas. Most of our classes are offered in the evenings, making it convenient for working professionals to keep up with their busy lives while engaging with our strong campus culture.
Graduate certificates: We offer several Graduate Certificates (4 or 6 courses) for professionals or students interested in acquiring substantive depth in one of our concentration areas, but who may not be ready to commit to a full degree. All of our certificates can be rolled into our MS degrees, subject to academic performance.
Off-campus/Online degrees: We offer several focused cohort programs fully online, designed to meet the needs of busy professionals.
Pushing Boundaries: Doctoral Programs
EMSE offers two types of doctoral programs: a traditional Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in which students engage in cutting edge scholarly research aimed at advancing generalizable knowledge, and a Doctor of Engineering (DEng) degree aimed at leveraging advanced analytical tools to solve the most challenging problems in practice. EMSE also offers online doctoral cohort programs.
